송출된 과거, 유산의 극장은 아시아에서의 전통이 근대와 어떻게 관계하며 어떠한 상호 연관 속에서 모습을 드러내는지를 26명 팀의 동시대 미술 작가들의 작품을 통해 다룬다. 본 전시 기획자인 필자가 2012년부터 진행해 온 리서치의 결과를 담은 전시로 카디스트 (샌프란시스코)의 3년간의 아시아 지역 프로그램 (2018 2020), 중국 광동 타임즈 미술관에서의 전시 (2020년 12월) 등 다년간의 기관 협력을 통해 발전하였고, 2021년 인천아트플랫폼에서 확장된 버전으로 순회한다. 갈라 포라스 킴, 고 사카이 & 류스케 하마구치, 김아영, 남화연, 리에코 시가, 문영민, 밍 웡, 사이먼 순 로저 넬슨 & 스텔라, 스테파니 스프레이 & 파초 베레즈, 알렉산더 키프 아쇼케 차테르지 & 리즈 필립스, 에리카 탄, 에블린 타오청 왕, 여다함, 왕 투오, 유에리 구에핀, 이슬기, 정 궈구, 정서영, 정은영, 제인 진 카이젠, 최수련, 치아 웨이 수, 토모코 키쿠치, 파트타임스위트, 피오나 탄, 호 추 니엔 등 예술가, 콜렉티브, 영화 감독, 다큐멘터리 예술가, 작가, 시각 연구자의 작품을 장기간의 리서치를 통해 선별하고 새로이 커미션 하여 완성했다.
On Frequencies of Tradition From Ghosts of Modernity to Spirits of the Ungovernable

Tradition is still vibrant in the daily lives of people in many countries in Asia: connecting diverse generations, transmitting values of community, and serving as a living archive of the future emergence of cultures. On the other hand, it is also estranged by negative perceptions as a source of patriarchy, authoritarianism, hierarchy, and outdated customs. The exhibition Frequencies of Tradition departs from the understanding of tradition as a space of contestation, where one can critically reflect on Asian modernization. Presenting works by 26 contemporary artists and collectives, filmmakers, and researchers, the exhibition explores tradition as an enchanting liminal space that complicates and pluralizes our understanding of the regional modern.
