작업 소개

57STUDIO는 국악 기반의 컨템포러리 밴드 블랙스트링의 퍼포먼스 필름 《Karma》를 연출 및 제작하였습니다. 본 작업은 한국전통공연예술진흥재단의 후원으로 진행되었으며, 2집 앨범의 타이틀곡을 시청각적으로 재해석한 영상 프로젝트입니다.

블랙스트링은 동시대적 감각과 전통의 깊이를 아우르며, 국악의 새로운 스펙트럼을 제시해온 팀으로도 잘 알려져 있습니다. 불교의 범패 선율이 공허한 공간을 가로지르며, 대금·거문고·일렉트로닉 사운드가 교차하는 긴 호흡 속에서 ‘업(業)의 세계’를 형상화합니다. 블랙스트링 특유의 깊은 음악적 감성과 연주자들의 집중된 에너지를 시각적으로 풀어내는 동시에, 퍼포먼스와 공간, 사운드가 어우러지는 새로운 형식의 공연 기록을 시도하였습니다.

57STUDIO directed and produced the performance film <Karma> for Black String, a contemporary band rooted in Korean traditional music. Commissioned by the Korea Traditional Performing Arts Foundation, this audiovisual project reinterprets the title track of the band’s second album.

Well known for bridging traditional depth with contemporary sensibilities, Black String has expanded the spectrum of Korean music. In this film, the Buddhist chant Beompae echoes through an empty space, while daegeum, geomungo, and electronic sounds intersect in meditative tension—evoking the cyclical world of karma. The film translates Black String’s unique emotional depth and the performers’ focused energy into a visual form, offering a new format of performance documentation where sound, space, and movement converge.
