작업 소개

57STUDIO는 2017–18 한영 상호교류의 해를 맞아 국립현대미술관에서 열린 《불협화음의 기술: 다름과 함께 하기》 전시의 기록 영상을 제작하였습니다.

이 전시는 영국문화원의 소장품 중 다양한 배경과 연령대의 동시대 작가 16명의 작품 약 26점을 중심으로, 1980년대부터 현재까지 영국 사회에서 일어난 주요 사회, 정치, 문화적 변화를 다루었습니다. 역사적 사건 자체보다, 계층, 민족, 경제, 정치적 분열과 그 경계를 예술가들이 자신만의 언어로 개입하고 해석하는 태도에 주목한 것이 특징입니다.

57STUDIO는 제레미 델러와 알란 케인의 <포크 아카이브>, 마틴 파, 폴 그라함, 그레이슨 페리, 모나 하툼, 존 아캄프라 등 다양한 작가들의 작품이 포착하는 사회적 긴장과 분열의 흔적을 영상으로 기록하고, 다채로운 목소리들이 만들어내는 ‘불협화음’의 에너지를 전시 공간 안에 생생히 담아내고자 하였습니다.

57STUDIO produced the exhibition documentation video for The Art of Dissonance: Living with Difference, held at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) as part of the 2017–18 Korea–UK Year of Mutual Exchange.

This exhibition featured around 26 works by 16 contemporary artists of diverse backgrounds and generations, drawn from the British Council Collection. It explored major social, political, and cultural shifts in British society from the 1980s to the present. Rather than focusing solely on historical events, the exhibition highlighted how artists engaged with and interpreted issues of class, ethnicity, economy, and political divides through their own visual languages.

57STUDIO sought to vividly capture the traces of social tension and fragmentation reflected in the works of artists such as Jeremy Deller and Alan Kane (Folk Archive), Martin Parr, Paul Graham, Grayson Perry, Mona Hatoum, and John Akomfrah. The resulting video documentation conveys the dynamic energy of “dissonance” that resonates throughout the exhibition space.
