작업 소개

57STUDIO는 국제갤러리에서 열린 최욱경 개인전의 전시 기록 영상을 제작하였습니다. 이번 전시는 작가의 미국 체류 시기였던 1963년부터 1978년 사이에 제작된 추상회화와 콜라주 등 주요 작품 50여 점을 중심으로, 강렬한 색채와 대담한 구성으로 대표되는 최욱경의 독자적인 예술 세계를 조명하였습니다.

1960~70년대 단색화와 아방가르드 운동이 주류를 이루던 한국 현대미술사 안에서, 자신만의 회화적 언어를 구축해간 작가의 궤적은 한국 여성 작가로서 드문 실험성과 주체성을 보여줍니다. 57STUDIO는 전시장 구성과 작품 간의 리듬, 그리고 회화의 물성과 감정의 흐름을 따라가며, 최욱경이 남긴 작업의 에너지와 태도를 영상으로 기록하였습니다.

57STUDIO produced the exhibition documentation video for the solo exhibition of Choi Wook-Kyung at Kukje Gallery.

Focusing on over 50 major works—including abstract paintings and collages—created between 1963 and 1978 during the artist’s time in the United States, the exhibition illuminated Choi’s distinct artistic language, defined by bold compositions and vibrant color palettes.

Within the context of 1960s–70s Korean art, when Dansaekhwa and avant-garde movements dominated the scene, Choi carved out an experimental and fiercely individual trajectory, offering a rare expression of agency and innovation as a Korean woman artist.

57STUDIO’s video traces the rhythm of the exhibition’s layout, the relationships between works, and the emotional and material energy embedded in Choi’s paintings—capturing the attitude and intensity of her practice with a cinematic lens.
