작업 소개

57STUDIO는 <묵향>의 초연 티저를 기획 및 제작하였습니다. 개관을 준비 중이던 국립현대미술관 서울관과, 전통과 현대를 모던하게 잇는 묵향의 작품성이 맞닿아 있다는 점에 주목하여, 한국춤의 정제된 아름다움을 미술관의 공간과 함께 담는 기획을 제안하였습니다.

초창기 작업으로 열악한 촬영 환경 속에서도, 국립무용단의 안무, 헤어, 의상, 그리고 무용수들의 우아하면서도 힘 있는 춤사위를 담아 한 편의 완성도 높은 영상을 완성할 수 있었습니다. 이 작업을 계기로 57STUDIO는 국립극장과 지속적인 협업을 이어오며, 공연 영상의 새로운 가능성을 꾸준히 탐구하고 있습니다.

57STUDIO planned and produced the teaser for the premiere of Scent of Ink. Recognizing the connection between the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA) Seoul, which was preparing for its grand opening, and the refined modern sensibility of Scent of Ink, we proposed a concept that captured the elegance of Korean dance within the museum’s architectural space.

Despite the challenges of an early-stage production and a demanding filming environment, we successfully created a high-quality video that highlighted the choreography, hair, costumes, and the graceful yet powerful movements of the National Dance Company of Korea. This project marked the beginning of 57STUDIO’s ongoing collaboration with the National Theater of Korea, continuously exploring new possibilities in performance video production.

스타일리시한 한국춤의 재해석으로 세계 무용계의 러브콜을 받아온 《묵향》이 해오름극장으로 돌아온다. 사군자의 선비 정신을 한 폭의 수묵화처럼 담아 미니멀리즘의 미학을 제시한 것으로 평가받는다. 섬세하고 깊은 호흡의 춤사위, 세련되고 단아한 미장센이 오래도록 짙은 잔향을 남긴다. 2013년 초연 이후 매진 행렬을 이어가며 평단과 객석의 호평을 거머쥔 작품으로, 올가을 미국과 캐나다에서 무용 한류의 역사를 이어간다. 다시 한번 한국무용의 역사를 써 내려갈 《묵향》이 오랜만에 안방 무대에서 관객을 만날 준비에 한창이다.

《Scent of Ink》, a stylish reinterpretation of Korean dance that has garnered international acclaim, makes a comeback to the Haeoreum Grand Theater. It is a representative repertoire of the National Dance Company of Korea that presents the aesthetics of minimalism by capturing the spirit of a scholar, known as ‘Sagunja,’ and presents a minimalist aesthetic akin to a monochrome ink painting. The dance embodies a delicate yet profound balance, while the sophisticated and elegant stage design leaves a lasting impact. Since its premiere in 2013, 《Scent of Ink》 has consistently sold out and received praise from critics and audiences, solidifying its place in the history of Korean dance in this repertory season.

그동안에 우리나라 고유의 춤 모양새. 손놀림 발디딤, 한국 춤만이 갖는 깊은 호흡의 조율을 하나씩, 치마 속에서 움직이는 현란한 발디딤이 보이진 않지만 관객이 상상할 수 있게끔 하는 것. 저고리속에 팔이 감춰져 있지만 손놀림에 의해서 어떤 몸짓이 당연히 따라가게 되는 그런 우리 고유의 전통 춤사위를 끄집어내느라 고심을 많이 했죠.
