작업 소개

57STUDIO는 국제갤러리에서 열린 김용익의 개인전 전시 기록 영상을 제작하였습니다. 이번 전시는 2015년부터 최근 2년간 작가가 제작한 회화 30여 점을 중심으로 구성되었으며, 국제갤러리에서 처음으로 열리는 개인전이기도 합니다.

1970년대 모더니즘부터 개념미술, 민중미술, 공공미술에 이르기까지 한국 현대미술의 흐름 속에서도 독립적인 태도를 유지해온 김용익은 제도에 대한 비판적 거리두기와 실험을 지속해왔습니다. 이번 전시의 작업들은 완결된 결과라기보다 오랜 시간에 걸친 사유의 흔적이며, 현재도 진행 중인 예술적 실천의 한 단면을 보여줍니다.

57STUDIO는 회화의 질감과 구성뿐 아니라, 작가의 사유가 스며든 화면과 전시장 분위기를 세밀하게 기록하여, 김용익이 쌓아온 작업 세계의 깊이와 현재성을 영상으로 전하고자 하였습니다.

57STUDIO produced the exhibition documentation video for the solo exhibition of Kim Yong-Ik at Kukje Gallery.

Featuring over 30 paintings created between 2015 and the past two years, the show marked the artist’s first solo presentation at Kukje Gallery.

Since the 1970s, Kim Yong-Ik has maintained an independent stance within the shifting landscapes of Korean modernism, conceptual art, Minjung art, and public art—continually challenging institutional systems through a spirit of critical distance and experimentation.

Rather than presenting a series of finished works, the exhibition offered traces of prolonged contemplation—fragments of an ongoing artistic practice still in motion.

57STUDIO carefully captured not only the textures and compositional rhythms of Kim’s paintings, but also the atmosphere of the gallery and the layered thought embedded within each canvas—conveying the depth and contemporaneity of his artistic world through film.
