Why do we pay attention to archives?
People crave empathy, reassurance, and unconditional recognition, but that’s impossible, which is why it creates pain and sorrow. Artists pursue beauty in an extreme profession characterized by extreme sensitivity and anxiety. They channel most of their energy into expressing what they consider ‘beauty’ in their lives.
Linguist Yang Joo-dong found the origin of ‘beauty’ in ‘sada,’ which means ‘to be like me.’ Poet Cho Ji-hoon also described ‘beauty’ as the emotion felt when one finds something similar to oneself in an object.
The completed work is their ‘beauty,’ willingly placed on the critical platform to receive acknowledgment and empathy. However, we empathize more with their struggles, pains, and loneliness in the process of creation than with the finished product.
Because we are unfinished creators still searching for ‘ourselves.’
